3rd Thematic Workshop on Vulnerability Atlas of India and Disaster Resistant Design & Construction Practices organized on September 11, 2019 at Puducherry
In order to sensitize about the Vulnerability Atlas of India, BMTPC conducted Thematic Workshop on Vulnerability Atlas of India and Disaster Resistant Design & Construction Practices on September 11, 2019 in association with Town & Country Planning Department, Puducherry at Puducherry.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri V. Narayanasamy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Puducherry in the august presence of Shri A. Namassivayam, Hon’ble Minister for Town & Country Planning, Govt. of Puducherry, Shri Malladi Krishna Rao,Hon’ble Minister for Housing, Government of Puducherry, Shri T.Djeamurthy, MLA and Chairman, Puducherry Planning Authority, Shri K.Venkatesan, MLA Thattanchavady Constituency, The programme was presided over by Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India. Shri Ashwani Kumar, Chief Secretary to Government of Puducherry and Shri Ashok Kumar, Secretary to Government of Puducherry also attended the programme. The programme was attended by more than 250 officials of State Government including students of architecture and engineering colleges.
The entire days proceedings were divided into four lectures namely, (a) Vulnerability Atlas of India by Dr.Shailesh Kr. Agrawal, Executive Director, BMTPC, (d) Improving Flood Resistance of Housing by Dr. N.K.Goel, Professor, Department of Hydrology, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, (c) Improving the Design of Housing/building for Wind and Cyclone by Dr. (Mrs.) S. Selvi Rajan, Former Scientist, CSIR-SERC, Madras, and (b) Improving Earthquake Resistance of Housing by Prof. A. Meher Prasad, Professor, Structural Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The programme was appreciated by every one and the participants found it of immense value.
