First Thematic Workshop on Vulnerability Atlas of India and Disaster Resistant Design & Construction Practices organized on May 3, 2019 at New Delhi
The Vulnerability Atlas of India, a unique Atlas comprising of hazard scenario of India and damage risk levels of housing types, was published by BMTPC in 1997 and 2006. The Atlas has been commended by the UN-Habitat as one of the best practices. Its Third Edition has been recently released during Construction Technology India 2019 during GHTC-India by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 2nd March, 2019 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Hon’ble Prime Minister emphasized the need to formulate & implement various schemes of the Central & State Governments keeping in view the vulnerability of the region & indicative risk assessment as given in Vulnerability Atlas of India and suitable provisions should also be included in their tender documents. It was also desired to publicize Vulnerability Atlas of India across India so as to handhold, create awareness and educate stakeholders towards disaster preparedness and mitigation. In this regard, the Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, has written letters to All Chief Secretaries, Concerned Ministries/Depts., CREDAI / NAREDCO / CII, All CPSUs, IITs, etc. for holding workshops Vulnerability Atlas of India.
In view of the above, the first Thematic Workshop on Vulnerability Atlas of India and Disaster Resistant Design & Construction Practices was organized on May 3, 3019 at New Delhi for educational institutions under Ministry of Human Resource Development. Participants from 56 educational institutions mainly senior faculty members from IITs, NITs, Central Universities, IISER, North East Universities, etc. participated in the programme. In addition, engineers from EPIL Ltd. also participated. The programme was inaugurated by Add.Secretary (Housing), MoHUA and Member, NDMA in the august presence of JS&MD (HFA), MoHUA and Director, MoHRD and a Brochure on Vulnerability Atlas was also released.
